To be able to understand the purpose of new media is the
most important task. Electronic media was developed to help and build our
knowledge, and not take over our lives.
Today very few people actually use media to gather information or do
projects or researches. Most of our interaction is with the superficial
features like games, videos, pictures and aimless things.
Too much information creates a block mentions Postman. Just
like when a computer is given too much information it tend to ‘hang’ or ‘freeze’,
similarly our brain can absorb only a certain amount of information at a given
point. At times when we are provided with an electronic media, we are not able
to understand what it is all about. Today understanding this media is very
crucial and it helps develop a lot of ideas based on the basics. The chapter
also talks about Neil Postman and how people tend to make an impression of an
author by reading their book. As it talks about Postaman, different other
topics of religion, media ecology, and language are visible.
