A Critical Assessment of the New Media Environment (5-9)

A lot in chapter 5 talks about television and TV shows. It is quite evident that it isn’t an easy task to create these shows. ‘Entertainment” which is an important part of society has to be kept alive. Media is the largest way of providing entertainment. Not all news may be entertaining but for some it is better than reading a newspaper. Race of the news telecaster also was an important part of the TV news. For a while it was even hard to accept women as being anchors on television. There are also criteria to meet depending what news you do. The background picture also was a factor in viewership numbers.

Chapter 7 talks about the relation between media and religion. Messages of weather, awards, sports and news can be spread through television. A person viewing the event on television can experience similar feelings. In the case of religion it is hard to get across though media, as religion is a spiritual aspect of ones life. One could listen to a church service but might not experience the same level of spirituality as he/she would in church
